Finding the perfect stone can be overwhelming and stressful. It seems like there are limitless price points, styles, and colors. However, this also means that within all of the possible options, there lies something that is perfect for your lifestyle, tastes, and wallet. We have prepared some information on some common household stones to give you a place to start looking. At the end of the day, there is no right or wrong stone to wear. Everyone has differing tastes and lifestyles so finding your perfect stone may not be something you would initially expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting off with a well known stone that holds its value very well and is right behind diamond in its ability to take a beating. Corundum, more famously known for its red variant, ruby, or the variety of other colors known as sapphires, have been highly sought after for ages for its exclusivity and hardness in jewelry. It’s less valuable than diamond making clear sapphires a popular alternative choice for wedding rings, however the price is still nothing to scoff at, making it a less than ideal choice for other everyday pieces. It’s a great starting point because it comes in just so many colors with strong structural integrity so by determining what hardness is most desirable for one’s lifestyle, we can move to alternatives that fit the bill for a lower price. Spinel is a particularly famous example for those looking for rubies and may be looking for a lower price point with comparable hardness, or are maybe looking for a stone with a larger color variety as spinels range from a bright pink to even a dark grey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another stone that offers similarly wide variations to corundum is quartz. In comparison to corundum, quartz is much more common, and thus sports a much lower price point. Quartz and it’s variants sit at a nice 7 on the hardness scale, so it’s also much more prone to damage over time compared to corundum. However quartz is known for having such a vast selection of variations, including amethyst, and citrine among many other stones. Quartz is available in almost every imaginable color and cut that you will guaranteed find an appealing style, and wearing quartz on a necklace or pair of earrings increases its lifespan significantly has it will see less surface contact than if it was worn on a bracelet or ring.
